With courage and empathy, you can overcome any challenge!

The journey of Assane Arnaldo, District Coordinator of the Transform Nutrition project in Murrupula, is a challenging one. In a 78 km journey from the Murrupula district headquarters to the Namucaua community, 40 m are crossed by canoe on the Lalalua River, and 5 km are travelled on foot, since he can't take his motorbike due to the insecurity of the canoe.
Assane's routine is characterised by adverse situations to reach the communities where he works. Sometimes he moves in heavy rain, other times he faces the scorching heat, but he maintains his unwavering commitment to the well-being of the communities he fights so hard to protect.
Each canoe crossing that Assane makes to the meetings of the Health Committees, Nutrition Groups, Girls' Clubs and for the children's weighing activity costs him 100 meticais, guaranteeing the children's healthy growth.
For us, no community is beyond our reach, even in the face of enormous challenges and difficult access conditions. Fulfilling our mission is our greatest satisfaction!
USAID Mozambique's efforts to transform nutrition in Nampula province brings us this incredible and inspiring story for all those willing to contribute to the well-being of rural communities.
