Monitoring visit to the Green Champions

ADPP, in consortium with AGA KHAN, GAPI, h2n, Smart Farming and ThirdWay Partners, is implementing the Agrovida Project, which seeks to strengthen food production systems in Cabo Delgado. The initiative covers the districts of Pemba, Mecufi, Metuge and Ancuabe, in the province of Cabo Delgado, with a focus on regenerative agriculture, sustainable fishing and nutrition.

Last week, the technical team carried out a monitoring visit to the community of Namiture, in the district of Metuge, with the aim of following the vermicompost production practice conducted by emerging producer Josefina. The activity consisted of transferring earthworms to the growing beds prepared during the Green Champions training held in September.

The process began with checking the humidity of the beds, a crucial step in ensuring suitable conditions for the worms' habitat.

Once viability was confirmed, the worm farm was irrigated to make it easier to remove the worms. They were then carefully transferred to the wooden beds and distributed evenly throughout the space, including the centre and sides.

This technique ensures better occupation of the space by the worms, promotes their efficient reproduction and minimises competition for resources within the growing beds. The action reflects the Agrovida Project's commitment to sustainability and empowering local communities by strengthening regenerative agricultural practices.
