As part of the emergency project funded by Humana Spain and implemented by ADPP, 3,000 family clothing kits were recently delivered to the Secretary of State of Maputo Province, Judith Massacula. This donation complements the actions already carried out by the project, which include the distribution of around 600 clothing kits and 600 kits of various food products in the cities of Maputo and Matola, as well as support for 3,200 pupils and their respective schools, which have suffered from the recent floods.
The Secretary of State for Maputo Province, Judith Massacula, said: "We are grateful for the support for our fellow citizens, some of whom are still in the resettlement centers. We are confident that these 3,000 family clothing kits will help our people in their daily lives. We will immediately send them to INGD, which will manage the distribution in the centers in coordination with the district governments and other actors so that they reach the real beneficiaries. All support is very welcome."
In addition to the actions mentioned above, the support financed by Humana Spain has also made it possible to distribute kits of school supplies at Matlhemele Primary School, with the aim of benefiting a total of 3,250 pupils from 11 schools in Maputo province. Educational material kits are also being distributed to 100 teachers and hygiene and cleaning material kits to 11 schools. The amount invested so far in supporting students and schools is 180,000 euros.
The INGD Delegate in Maputo province, Sara Matchie, said: "This significant support from ADPP, a permanent partner in emergency issues and training, will comfort families severely affected by extreme events that were not foreseen in the seasonal climate forecasts, affecting around 109,000 families in three episodes of flooding in less than a month. All support is always welcome, because even today these families are crying out for help, still in vulnerable situations and in resettlement districts. We're going to evaluate the distribution plan at provincial level."
Damião Mabota, Program Officer at ADPP, said: "We believe that this donation will serve as a breath of fresh air for the legitimate beneficiaries, both for the families who are still in the resettlement centers and for those who have returned to their homes. Each family clothing kit will benefit one family, making a total of 3,000 families. Today we delivered 3,000 kits to the Secretary of State of Maputo Province, in response to the floods that affected the province and the city of Maputo. It is important to note that we have been working with INGD since the floods occurred, and this is not our first action of support."
